Book Summary:

After a horrible ordeal and lengthy captivity, Illori Swain is resigned to wither her life away in loneliness. Then she meets Karsten Morris, a male unicorn she has been searching for, the other half of her soul.

A man of worth and a stallion of breeding, Karsten Morris sees Illori as his salvation, the love he’s searched for all his life. The luck and light that rule their existence finally bring them together, but everything worthwhile is tested, and fate isn’t against making the good suffer.

After escaping her captivity, free from the bonds of hell that held her, Illori is now hunted by two of Hell’s minions.

One, Sammael, a fallen angel with one foot in Heaven, is set on the scent by Lucifer himself. The other, Nybras, is a devil vying for Sammael’s job. Nybras will stop at nothing to get what he thinks he deserves.

When the devil cheats to gain his prize, Sammael must join forces with Karsten to save the mare Illori to make sure the balance of the verses are not compromised.

Book Review:

We join the supposedly last Unicorn on Earth, shortly after she escapes from the Fallen Belial that was sent back to Hell in the last book Gifts. Illori goes back to where her home was long ago, and decides that she is going to tell her families descendants about their lineage, and die.

Well, Unicorns are considered to be lucky, and for once, Illori finally hits pay dirt. What she finds amazes her, for the first time since she left the Glimmer, she finds a male Unicorn.

Instantly attracted to one another, the pair run off to Illori’s apartment, and end up having sex. However, before they can truly mate, their happiness suddenly takes a turn for the worst when another Fallen breaks into Illori’s apartment and decrees that Lucifer wants her dead.

Suddenly, the new couple is on the run from the Fallen of Hell, and luck doesn’t exactly seem to be on their side for quite awhile. Regardless, the book continues on at a fast and exciting pace. They meet along the way several different beings, including Fey, Angels, and human Witches. Needless to say, there is action, romance, lots of sex, and more.

However, the Soft Edge of Midnight was also a different look at many things. Atheists often say, that the reason why Christians never get what they pray for/want is because if there is a God, that he doesn’t care about us anymore. This book touches on this subject in many ways that might offend some Christians.

It is a great book, however, but it probably should be read with an open mind if you are of the Christian faith. Regardless, I think this is another great book by the Price Sisters.
